The record

Dominique Marshall was killed after gunfire broke out at a house party in Elsanor on Dec. 15, 2019. News reports published in 2021 and 2023 said the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit had made no arrest and continued to seek information in the case.[1][2]

The two reports differ on Marshall’s age. FOX10 identified her as 21, while NBC 15 identified her as 22.[1][2] NBC 15 reported that she was from Bay Minette.[2]

The shooting

Investigators said at least two groups of partygoers exchanged gunfire at a home on U.S. 90 and that Marshall was struck in the crossfire.[1] NBC 15 similarly reported that investigators described her as having been hit by a stray bullet at a rented home off Highway 90.[2]

NBC 15 reported that more than 100 people had gathered outside the home and scattered when the shots were fired.[2]

Friends attempted to take Marshall to a hospital while speaking with 911, then stopped on the Foley Beach Express to wait for an ambulance, according to FOX10. The station reported that she died there.[1] NBC 15 reported more generally that she was rushed toward a hospital but did not survive, and quoted Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit Lt. Andre Reid as saying investigators first responded to the Beach Express, away from the initial shooting scene.[2]

The investigation

Reid told NBC 15 in 2021 that witnesses and other people had provided information, but it had not led to an arrest. He said investigators needed people to give a complete and truthful account of what happened.[2]

Both reports described Marshall’s killing as the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit’s only unresolved murder at the time they were published.[1][2] FOX10 reported in December 2023 that the unit had been formed in 2012.[1]

Marshall’s father, Cornelius Marshall, told NBC 15 in 2021 that he visited the sheriff’s office weekly and remained committed to seeking answers about his daughter’s death.[2]

The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to contact the agency.[1] The supplied sources do not establish whether the case has been resolved since the most recent report in December 2023.
